Hawkesbury Upton courtyard

My clients had plans to convert an existing outbuilding at the end of this courtyard space into a garden room with a glazed wall. They wanted to redevelop the adjacent courtyard to create outdoor dining and relaxing spaces to compliment the new garden room, which is at a lower level than the house and garage. The design involves enlarging the lower level outside the garden room to create a sunken dining and fire pit area. There is built-in seating around a gas-fired fire pit and space for a dining set. Broad steps lead up to the upper terrace, which accommodates the existing hot tub and provides space for more garden seating. A new freestanding wall encloses the currently open north west corner of the courtyard space and encloses a separate 'inner' courtyard outside of the door to the house. A feature is made of the boundary wall along the southern edge of the space by utilising wall fixed laser cut steel panels as wall art in combination with climbing plants and feature lighting. Planted raised beds and large containers soften the hard landscape elements and provide visual interest.
