Contemporary layout in Wickwar
This garden was a blank canvas and, although a relatively small plot, the brief was quite long. My clients wanted a garden with a contemporary feel that worked with a new garden room extension. They wanted outdoor dining and relaxing spaces, larger planting areas to serve their developing interest in gardening, a small kitchen garden area, storage and interesting views from the new garden room. A two tiered design developed, separated by raised beds and broad steps, to deal with the sloping plot and create visual interest. The main dining terrace is alongside the house, with a separate paved seating area below which catches more of the available sun across this north facing plot. The kitchen garden utilises the wedge shaped area at the back of the plot and includes a feature 'posh shed' fronted by raised vegetable beds. This creates an attractive focal point and feature, as well as providing the required functional storage and vegetable growing space.
